Export News

U.S. Commercial Service User Fees – Feedback on Proposed Changes Requested

The U.S. Department of Commerce will publish a 30-day Federal Register Notice (FRN) on December 16th to collect feedback from the public on proposed adjustments to U.S. Commercial Service’s user fees.  Note that the FRN is only soliciting feedback on the proposal and does not constitute a change in CS’s current fee structure at this time.  Any and all comments must be submitted through the Federal e-Rulemaking Portal at https://www.regulations.gov.  The feedback collected from the FRN will then be included in the proposal to be submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for consideration.  Should OMB approve the proposal, a subsequent FRN will be published announcing the new fee schedule along with the effective date of implementation, which is not expected before May 1, 2017.

 

2016 Country Commercial Guides Now Available

When conducting research on foreign markets, do what thousands of U.S. businesses do each year; check out the latest market trends available through the U.S. Country Commercial Guides (CCGs) compiled by the U.S. Commercial Service.  The Guides cover more than 140 Countries and contain the latest intelligence on high-demand industry sectors, economic overviews, selling techniques, investment climate considerations, trade financing options, and business travel advice and resources. 16 NEW countries have been added to the CCG portfolio, including Bangladesh, Ecuador, Qatar, and Uganda. Updates are written by “boots-on-the-ground” U.S. Commercial Service Trade professionals and U.S. State Department economic officers.  There is also a World Bank Group Commercial Guide that provides insights into how World Bank-funded projects work, and how American firms, from prime contractors to subcontractors and suppliers, can identify and access opportunities in them. U.S. Lifts Sanctions Against Burma/Myanmar

On October 7, 2016, President Obama removed economic and financial sanctions against Myanmar that had been in place for nearly two decades. “Burma has made significant strides in recent years, including choosing a civilian-led, democratically elected government. Illinois Education & Training Exports Rise 8.1%

The annual Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange was released this week, and notes that an increasing number of students are crossing the globe to gain practical, international experience that they can apply in their careers and life in a global society.  The number of U.S. students studying abroad increased by 3%, whereas the number of international students studying in the U.S. increased by 7% over the past year. According to the report, which is produced by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in partnership with the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the number of international students at U.S. colleges and universities surpassed one million for the first time during the 2015-16 academic year—to a new high of nearly 1,044,000, and contributing nearly $36 billion to the U.S. economy.  The state of Illinois is the 5th most popular destination for international students, hosting over 50,000 students in the 2015-16 academic year, which represents an increase of 8.1% over the previous year, and equates to more than $1.57 billion in education and training exports for the state.   For more data, visit http://www.iie.org/Open-Doors.

2017 China City and Industry Report: A Guide for U.S. Exporters –Now Available!

The U.S. Commercial Service and Education USA Costa Rica would like to invite U.S. Community Colleges to participate in the second edition of the Community College Education Fair.

The fair will include:

  • Three visits to the high schools (students expected 600)
  • One afternoon will be dedicated to government meetings and the formal education sessions with counselors.
  • An Open Education Fair with students and parents that will take place on Saturday.
  • Optional cultural event.
  • Transportation services from and to the airport.

This comprehensive two-and-a-half day Train the Trainer class will prepare your company’s trainer, safety department staff, human resource department, or supervisors to present the one-day powered industrial truck (Forklift) training class. Each student will receive two “Train the Trainer” packages. One package covers sit-down forklifts, ITA Classes 1, 4 and 5. Practice critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use. It is appropriate for participants with limited or no medical training who need a course completion card in first aid, CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. If an offering is cancelled by McHenry County College, registrants will be notified by phone at their place of employment or at home.  Full refund of tuition will be made when McHenry County College cancels.  A course registration canceled 24 hours in advance by the registrant is subject to a full refund or the tuition can be applied to enrollment in another class.  Failure by a participant to cancel a class registration 24 hours in advance of the date of the offering will necessitate full payment of tuition and fees.  Someone may substitute for you at any time.
