The room was a buzz with business on Thursday, April 11th at the Holiday Inn ballroom in Crystal Lake.  Almost 90 companies participated and connected with potential customers and suppliers which was like music to the ears of MCEDC President Pam Cumpata.  "The purpose of this event to open doors, create opportunities and to share information about products and companies. Bottom line....to build business!  We have heard of companies who participated before and have generated solid business.  In fact, one company met their business park neighbor here and within two years this previously 'unknown' neighbor  is now one of their top customers."

This speeddating for manufacturers event provided companies with from 7 to 10 fifteen minute appointments.   Every 15 minutes, President Pam Cumpata rang a bell to close the match and folks moved to their next appointments.  Fourteen MCEDC Investor/members and service providers such as Centegra Health Systems and Stan's Office Technologies were staged around the sides of the room for companies to meet.  In addition, many Illinois state agencies were also on hand to assist and meet with companies during their free times.  One of the most sought after matches at the event was Caterpillar.  Their two representatives held over 22 matches with our McHenry County manufacturers.  In total, over 500 match appointments were held.

MCEDC Board of Director Mark Steadman (Stan's Office Technologies serving Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin) expressed his appreciation to Corporate Sponsor "Castle Bank" and breakfast sponsor  "In Sync Systems" for making this event possible.  MCEDC Board of Director Mark Steadman (Stan's Office Technologies, servng Northern Illinois and Souther Wisconsin) expressed his appreciation to Corporate Sponsor "Castle Bank" and breakfast sponsor  "In Sync Systems" for making this event possible.

McHenry, IL- Chroma Corporation was awarded the McHenry County Business Champion Award during the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation’s. Annual Dinner on October 11, 2012.  The McHenry County Economic Development Committee awarded Chroma Corporation the prestigious award for growth and innovation.

Chroma Corporation was awarded the Division 3 award over 14 nominees for large businesses that employ more than 100 people. The award was presented at the annual MCEDC dinner with over 400 leaders of small businesses in the local Community.

The 45- year-old company added 13 pieces of equipment over the last two years to its McHenry production facility to activate a quicker turn around and implement shorter lead times on its growing small-order segment of the business. Tom Bolger, Chroma’s President and CEO, said the company’s green technology has allowed it to reduce its carbon footprint and Chroma is continuing to invent products requiring less energy to be produced.

McHenry County EDC 2012 Business Champions!

McHenry County Economic Development (MCEDC) announced the  2012 Business Champion Award winners at the MCEDC Annual Dinner October 11th, 2012.

For the past five years, MCEDC has recognized outstanding companies who have positively contributed to McHenry County’s economy and who have exhibited business acumen and vision. Judging is conducted by a panel of 9 independent and unbiased business leaders residing outside of McHenry County.   Pam Cumpata, President of MCEDC commented “ McHenry County is fortunate to have so many outstanding companies.  There were 28 business champion nominations with 14 finalists.” The 2012 Business Champions were presented their awards by Rick Stephens, Senior VP of The Boeing Company and keynote speaker at the Annual Dinner and by Gary Overbay, MCEDC Chairman of the Board.

Congratulations to the 2012 Business Champions

  • Category 1 (less than 25 employees) – Impact Plastics, Huntley, IL
  • Category 2 (25 to 100 employees) – All-Rite Spring Company, Spring Grove, IL
  • Category 3 (over 100 employees) – Chroma Corporation, McHenry, IL

Impact Plastics, Huntley was selected in Category 1 (less than 25 employees).  Faced with challenges of raw material price increases, they found a way to use recycled plastics in their manufacturing process.

In the mid-size company category of 25 to 100 employees, All-Rite Spring Company, Spring Grove is the 2012 Business Champion.  This company is in the process of expanding their facilities and during their recent groundbreaking every single employee was engaged in the important ground breaking ceremony and with their own ‘shovels in the ground’.  This single act of inclusion reinforced the company’s corporate belief that their by having employees as true part of the team,  they become engaged and an integral part of the company’s success.

Chroma Corporation, McHenry is the winner in the large category (over 100 employees).  This company has been doing business in McHenry County for over 40 years and has been growing at twice the rate of other companies within their industry.  During the last two years, they invested in thirteen new pieces of equipment. They also believe in helping to educate the future workforce and have sponsored a grant for a student at McHenry County College.
