Judging is conducted by a panel of 9 independent and unbiased business leaders residing outside of McHenry County.   Pam Cumpata, President of MCEDC commented “ McHenry County is fortunate to have so many outstanding companies.  There were 28 business champion nominations with 14 finalists.” The 2012 Business Champions were presented their awards by Rick Stephens, Senior VP of The Boeing Company and keynote speaker at the Annual Dinner and by Gary Overbay, MCEDC Chairman of the Board.

Congratulations to the 2012 Business Champions

  • Category 1 (less than 25 employees) – Impact Plastics, Huntley, IL
  • Category 2 (25 to 100 employees) – All-Rite Spring Company, Spring Grove, IL
  • Category 3 (over 100 employees) – Chroma Corporation, McHenry, IL

Impact Plastics, Huntley was selected in Category 1 (less than 25 employees).  Faced with challenges of raw material price increases, they found a way to use recycled plastics in their manufacturing process.

In the mid-size company category of 25 to 100 employees, All-Rite Spring Company, Spring Grove is the 2012 Business Champion.  This company is in the process of expanding their facilities and during their recent groundbreaking every single employee was engaged in the important ground breaking ceremony and with their own ‘shovels in the ground’.  This single act of inclusion reinforced the company’s corporate belief that their by having employees as true part of the team,  they become engaged and an integral part of the company’s success.

Chroma Corporation, McHenry is the winner in the large category (over 100 employees).  This company has been doing business in McHenry County for over 40 years and has been growing at twice the rate of other companies within their industry.  During the last two years, they invested in thirteen new pieces of equipment. They also believe in helping to educate the future workforce and have sponsored a grant for a student at McHenry County College.

A business luncheon meeting with William J.  Daley was held at MCEDC Investor 31 North Banquet & Conference Center on Wednesday, April 24th.

Over 100 business leaders listened to his presentation on Leadership.  MCEDC Board of Directors Blake Hobson, Secretary, Jamie Maravich, Treasurer, Board of Director Brad Heldt, Transportation Committee Chairman Charles Eldredge  and many of our investor/members were on hand to share some of the concerns of the business community on the challenges facing business in Illinois.

Representative Jack Franks, District 63, introduced Bill Daley who was the former Chief of Staff for President Obama.  Prior to this he was Chairman of JP Morgan Chase Midwest for 8 years and President of SBC Communications for 3 years.

In public service Daley coordinated in 2000 the effort for permanent Normal Trade Relations with China and chaired Al Gore's Presidential campaign.  From 1997 to 2000 Daley served as US Secretary of Commerce under President Clinton overseeing a department of more than 40,000 people. As special counsel to President Clinton in 1993, Daley coordinated the successful campaign to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Daley serves on the corporate Boards of Abbott Labs, Boeing Co, and Merck and Co.

This luncheon was a collaborative event with our local Chambers of Commerce, and part of the MCEDC Legislative Committee’s efforts to raise the visibility of McHenry County,
