    McHenry County, IL – McHenry County Economic Development (MCEDC) announced the 2016 Business Champion Award winners at the MCEDC 25 th Anniversary Dinner on October 12, 2016. Over 450 business leaders attended the event with keynote speaker, Kevin Lobo, CEO of Stryker Corporation. The McHenry County Community Foundation (MCCF) presented their first Philanthropist of the Year award to Don and Chris Schellhaass for their dedication to making a difference. They represent the spirt of philanthropy and have given of their time, expertise and experience to many organizations. The evening culminated with the presentation of the 2016 Business Champion Awards.

    For the past nine years, MCEDC has recognized outstanding companies who have positively contributed to McHenry County’s economy and who have exhibited business acumen and vision. Judging is conducted by a panel of independent and unbiased business leaders residing outside of McHenry County. Pam Cumpata, President of MCEDC commented “McHenry County is fortunate to have so many exceptional companies who not only have outstanding business expertise, but also give back to our community in so many ways.”

    In the category of fewer than 24 employees, Heartland Cabinet Supply of Crystal Lake received the award. Like many others, they faced the many challenges of the economic downturn of 2009 but they faced those challenges by investing in new equipment and in employee training and learning opportunities. They also shifted their customer base focusing more on commercial clients, such as banks, schools and libraries with a product line includes custom cabinets, plastic laminates, solid surface fabrication and architectural millwork. Their residential side of their business offers custom cabinets and countertops. With their 200% growth over the last few years and increased profitability, they are an outstanding business deserving of recognition. Gary Reece, owner accepted the award.

    2015 Business Champion Awards Announced

    McHenry County, IL – McHenry County Economic Development (MCEDC) announced the 2015 Business Champion Award winners at the MCEDC Annual Dinner on October 27, 2015. Over 400 business leaders attended the event which culminates with the Business Champion Award presentations

    For the past eight years, MCEDC has recognized outstanding companies who have positively contributed to McHenry County’s economy and who have exhibited business acumen and vision. Judging is conducted by a panel of independent and unbiased business leaders residing outside of McHenry County. Pam Cumpata, President of MCEDC commented “McHenry County is fortunate to have so many outstanding companies. This year, we had 29 nominations and 16 Business Champion Finalists.

    The 2015 Business Champions were presented their awards by Brik Eyre, Baxter US Corporate Vice President and President Hospital Products, and keynote speaker at the Annual Dinner and by Mark Saladin, MCEDC Chairman of the Board and Pam Cumpata, President MCEDC.

    Steve Middaugh of Edward Jones Investments and chairman of the Business Champions Task Force announced the first award for companies with less than 24 employees. He noted that the winning company epitomizes the word innovative with their dedication to remaining on top of ever changing technological advances through the acquisition of new equipment and software. This company opens its doors to area high schools thru “Project Lead the Way” providing opportunities for on-site learning. Visionary, risk taker, innovator are words that describe this company and owner.

    McHenry County Economic Development (MCEDC) announced the 2013 Business Champion Award winners at the MCEDC Annual Dinner on November 5, 2013. Over 400 business leaders attended the event which culminates with the Business Champion Award presentations

    For the past six years, MCEDC has recognized outstanding companies who have positively contributed to McHenry County’s economy and who have exhibited business acumen and vision. Judging is conducted by a panel of 9 independent and unbiased business leaders residing outside of McHenry County.  Pam Cumpata, President of MCEDC commented “ McHenry County is fortunate to have so many outstanding companies. There were 15 business champion finalists.” The 2013 Business Champions were presented their awards by Harry Kraemer, (Board Member of Sage Products, LLC, Executive Partner, Madison Dearborn Partners, Clinical Professor of Management and Strategy, Kellogg School of Management, Former Chairman and CEO of Baxter International) keynote speaker at the Annual Dinner and by Gary Overbay, MCEDC Chairman of the Board.

    Phoenix Woodworking, Huntley was selected in Category 1 (less than 25 employees). Faced the many challenges of the recent recession, this company worked hard to keep everyone employed by reducing hours and using downtime to provide training and build on certifications. Sandra Pierce, President, accepted the award. Cumpata noted that Sandra not only has an outstanding company, but she is active leader in many organizations and a long time investor/member in MCEDC.

    McHenry County Economic Development (MCEDC) announced the  2012 Business Champion Award winners at the MCEDC Annual Dinner October 11th, 2012.

    For the past five years, MCEDC has recognized outstanding companies who have positively contributed to McHenry County’s economy and who have exhibited business acumen and vision. Judging is conducted by a panel of 9 independent and unbiased business leaders residing outside of McHenry County.   Pam Cumpata, President of MCEDC commented “ McHenry County is fortunate to have so many outstanding companies.  There were 28 business champion nominations with 14 finalists.” The 2012 Business Champions were presented their awards by Rick Stephens, Senior VP of The Boeing Company and keynote speaker at the Annual Dinner and by Gary Overbay, MCEDC Chairman of the Board.

    Congratulations to the 2012 Business ChampionsCategory 1 (less than 25 employees) – Impact Plastics, Huntley, ILCategory 2 (25 to 100 employees) – All-Rite Spring Company, Spring Grove, ILCategory 3 (over 100 employees) – Chroma Corporation, McHenry, IL

    Impact Plastics, Huntley was selected in Category 1 (less than 25 employees).  Faced with challenges of raw material price increases, they found a way to use recycled plastics in their manufacturing process.

    Ann Willits, MCEDC Business Champion Task Force chair, who announced the awards at the recent MCEDC Annual Dinner, commented that the selection process was very challenging with consistently high scores for all nominees.

    Astro Craft is an outstanding company encompassing 19 employees with almost 200 years of experience.  From a modest 3,500 sq. ft. facility in 1968, they provided prototype and production part orders to the automotive service, spray painting, packaging and copying equipment industries.

    Since 1960, Stan’s Office Technologies has been providing business solutions and outstanding services to the McHenry County business community. Stanley J. Steadman founded the company 49 years ago with the vision of providing a local machine dealership. They have a tenured staff of 26 employees and are proud of the support they give to many non-profit service organizations. Stan’s Office Technologies is thriving and has achieved double digit growth over the past five years with the expectation of continued growth.

     

    Division II – MediumMillennium Electronics, Inc.

    Millennium Electronics, Inc. is a preferred Electronics Manufacturing Services provider to the Aerospace, Defense, Medical, Telecommunication & Industrial Control Industries. Named one of the top “101 Best and Brightest Companies to work for in Chicagoland” five years in a row by the National Association of Business Resources, Millennium has always called McHenry County home since it was created in 1995. Nearly all of its 100 employees are from McHenry County where they support our communities.
